But I think that any young drummer starting out today should get himself a great teacher and learn all there is to know about the instrument that he wants to play.
Today, to spice things up at the end of my session, I listened to Italian Gypsy music that a friend of mine gave to me. I have to be honest, Romdraculas' "Firenze" has been sitting on the shelf for about a month now gathering dust. My immediate go-to is rock, funk and blues. Not gypsy jams.
After about two tracks my toes were tapping and I couldn't sit still so I decided to play along. Not only was it fun, it pushed me to try a few new configurations that I'll be working into my daily gigs. While I won't be heading to Europe anytime soon to become a Romdracula I will be smiling when I think about what I learned today beacuse I listened to something new.
When you learn something new you're winning!
